How can the relevance of commodity in the
21st century communicate itself into the form of modern architecture?
South London is a series of gang islands, the boundaries are invisible
yet aggressively maintained and patrolled by their members.
The 27 gangs identified in Lambeth by the Metropolitan Police have a
name and identity signified by graffiti tags and typically, coloured
bandanas. Crime and violence are mobilised as a currency to acquire
social capital e.g. status, respect, power alongside a functional role
in promoting group identity, solidarity and increasing the size of their
endz (gang territory). |
